Alessandro Marazzi Sassoon
Democracy Reporter
Alessandro is an award winning journalist who got his start in Cambodia in the newsroom of The Phnom Penh Post through a Princeton in Asia fellowship in 2015. He left Cambodia amid the country’s crackdown on free and independent media in 2018. After two years as a local investigative reporter in Florida for the USA Today network he moved to Atlanta and started state and national news for a variety of outlets including The New York Times. His background in accountability journalism and love for the city led him to take on the Democracy beat for Atlanta Civic Circle in March 2024. He hopes his work can empower people to effect positive change in their communities. In his free time he enjoys playing chess and being disappointed by the Italian national soccer team.
