The governor heads Georgia’s executive branch. The governor names the leaders and board members that oversee state functions like public health provision and the university system. The governor also proposes a state budget every year.

This year’s gubernatorial race is a rematch between Gov. Brian Kemp (R) and Stacey Abrams (D), whom Kemp beat by less than 2 percentage points in 2018. If Abrams wins, she’ll be the first Democrat to hold the office since 2003.
