The Office of Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner licenses and regulates insurance companies, ensures that their rates, rules and forms comply with state law, and investigates insurance fraud. The office also inspects buildings and houses to prevent fire.

Gov. Brian Kemp appointed the incumbent, John King (R),  as commissioner on July 1, 2019 to replace Jim Beck (R), who had been suspended from office and subsequently convicted of 37 counts of fraud and money laundering against a former employer.
